1 Customizing Colors

Add your brand colors to make QR codes instantly recognizable as part of your marketing materials.

How to Change Colors:
  1. Navigate to the Generator page
  2. Expand the "Customization Options" section
  3. Select Foreground Color (the dark pattern)
  4. Select Background Color (the light background)
  5. Click "Generate" to preview
Critical Rule: Always maintain high contrast between foreground and background. Low contrast = poor scannability.
Contrast Guidelines:
✓ Good Contrast
  • Dark blue on white
  • Black on light yellow
  • Dark green on cream
  • Navy on light gray
✗ Poor Contrast
  • Light gray on white
  • Yellow on white
  • Dark blue on black
  • Red on orange
Pro Tip: Use our built-in contrast checker. If the indicator shows red, adjust your colors before generating.

2 Error Correction Level

Error correction determines how much damage your QR code can sustain while remaining scannable.

L Low (7%)

Minimal error recovery. Best for digital displays where the code won't be damaged.

Use for: Websites, apps, digital screens
M Medium (15%)

Good balance between complexity and durability. General purpose setting.

Use for: Flyers, business cards, general print
Q Quartile (25%)

Higher recovery capability. Recommended for outdoor or high-wear applications.

Use for: Posters, outdoor signs, packaging
H High (30%)

Maximum recovery. Required when adding logos or when codes may be partially obscured.

Use for: Branded codes with logos, harsh environments
Recommendation: Use High (H) when adding logos. Use Medium (M) for standard print materials.

3 Size and Export Format

Choosing the Right Size:

The optimal size depends on where and how you'll use your QR code.

Use Case Recommended Size Notes
Business Cards 2cm x 2cm (0.8in) Minimum readable size
Flyers / Brochures 3-5cm (1.2-2in) Easy to scan, prominent
Posters 10-15cm (4-6in) Scannable from distance
Billboards 50cm+ (20in+) Large enough for moving viewers
Digital / Web 300-500px Scales to screen size
Export Formats:
PNG

Standard raster image. Great for web and most print applications.

Recommended
SVG

Vector format. Scales infinitely without quality loss. Best for large prints.

Best Quality
PDF

Professional document format. Perfect for sending to printers.

Logo Guidelines:
  1. Size: Logo should cover no more than 20-30% of the QR code
  2. Error Correction: MUST use High (H) level when adding logos
  3. Shape: Square or circular logos work best
  4. Format: Upload PNG with transparent background for best results
  5. Resolution: Minimum 300x300px for print quality
How to Add a Logo:
  1. Generate your QR code with High (H) error correction
  2. Click "Add Logo" in customization options
  3. Upload your logo file (PNG, JPG, or SVG)
  4. Adjust logo size with the slider (10-30%)

5 Using Templates

Start with pre-designed templates that follow best practices.

Available Template Categories:
  • Business: Professional styles for corporate use
  • Event: Vibrant designs for tickets and invitations
  • Restaurant: Menu and ordering optimized layouts
  • Marketing: Attention-grabbing promotional styles
  • Social Media: Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn friendly
Using Templates:
  1. Click "Use Template" on the Generator page
  2. Browse template categories
  3. Select a template to apply its styling
  4. Customize colors and text as needed
  5. Generate your branded QR code

Design Best Practices

The "quiet zone" is the white border around the QR code. Always maintain at least 4 modules (squares) of white space around all sides. Don't crop too close!

Before printing or publishing, test your customized QR code on at least 3 different smartphones. What looks good may not always scan well.

While customization is fun, don't go overboard. Avoid gradients, complex patterns, or too many colors. Simple designs scan more reliably.

Digital displays can use simpler codes with lower error correction. Printed materials should use higher error correction and avoid very light colors that may not print well.

Your QR code should complement your brand, but scannability always comes first. A beautiful QR code that doesn't scan is useless.
